The Department of State Has Issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory for Nigeria

At 12:01 a.m. EDT on Sunday, June 12, the CDC revoked its Order that said all airline or other aircraft passengers coming from a foreign country to the U.S. had to show a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of recovery from COVID-19 in order to get on any plane going to the U.S. Notably, the CDC Order that non-U.S. citizens and non-immigrants who want to travel to the U.S. must show proof of vaccination is still in place. Nigeria’s Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 released new rules for all travelers to Nigeria on April 4, 2022. These rules include:

Anyone traveling to Nigeria from any country MUST sign up through the online Nigeria International Travel Portal (nitp.ncdc.gov.ng).

• Passengers who are fully vaccinated and going to Nigeria are not required to take a COVID-19 test before leaving or after arriving.
• Passengers who are fully vaccinated must show a certificate that proves they are fully vaccinated. According to the NCDC, a person is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 if they got two doses of an NCDC-approved COVID-19 vaccine at least two weeks before their travel date. On their website, you can find a list of the vaccines that have been approved. Those who don’t have a certificate of vaccination will be treated as unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. Yellow vaccination cards from the World Health Organization and the U.S. CDC are accepted.
• Passengers who haven’t been fully vaccinated or who have only gotten part of the vaccine must take a COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before they leave and on days 2 and 7 after they arrive. Before leaving, these travelers must pay for their PCR tests on the Nigeria International Travel Portal (nitp.ncdc.gov.ng).
• The same rules apply to kids under 18 as to those who are fully vaccinated.
• If passengers don’t follow the rules for COVID-19, they will be fined.
